I must say that I am a huge fan of fortune cookies, especially when they are freshly baked, as I fortunately got the opportunity to taste some free samples from the famous Fortune Cookie Factory in SF's Chinatown. This Factory remains one of the only places you can still find handmade fortune cookies in the country. In this factory you can see the fortune cookies made right in front of you!

56 Ross Alley, San Fransisco, CA. Open every day 9:00AM to 6:00PM

This factory has been supplying fortune cookies to Chinatown and around the world since 1962. Nansi Chan has been in the business for 35 years, she makes 20.000 fortune cookies every day.

Tolden gate fortune factory in SF makes 40.000 fortune cookies daily (2016, Bizarre Foods).

Did you know that Fortune Cookies was invented in San Fransisco? They are not a Chinese invention, but they are traditionally used as treats at the end of a Chinese restaurant meal. In fact they originated in California, but who the actual inventor was, has continued to be a debate. One of the history myths says they were created by a Japanese American as a treat for his guests in the Japanese Tea Garden, who was also created by him in the SF's Golden Gate Park.

Edit: Newly found source of information tells that fortune cookies were invented by the Japanese, popularised by the Chinese and ultimately consumed by the Americans.

According to a food destination programme I watched on TravelChannel (2016, Bizarre Foods), the fortune cookies are inspired by the Japanese fortune crackers, but putting paper fortune inside every cracker is an American idea invented in SF.

Handy tips:

* When walking around with valuable items, be careful and keep an eye of your own belongings

* In Chinatown you can find many interesting stuff, e.g. Oriental Chinese dress silk for Wine Bottles coverage (Which are super cute!)

* You should buy souvenirs here, as they are much less expensive than any where else in SF area

* And Don't Forget to go to The Fortune Cookie Factory! That's a MUST SEE you don't want to miss!
